Share teaching wisdom. Each time you dive into teaching, you learn something new. Pass it on! Take a student teacher, mentor a new teacher, help a teacher in need. Contributing to the profession brings fulfillment and lets you truly enjoy teaching.
Student teachers provide a special opportunity to share teaching wisdom. Take the plunge! Yes, they’re newbies with a lot to learn. But that’s the beauty of it. You can polish aspiring teachers into shining stars. As you send them out into the world of teaching, your sphere of influence widens. The sense of achievement will make you enjoy teaching even more.
No one needs support more than a new teacher. If your school offers a formal mentoring program, sign up. If not, offer to help a new teacher in your building. Show them the nooks and crannies of the school building. Explain procedures and rules. Help with lesson planning and classroom management. Lend a shoulder to cry on. Explain that all new teachers begin with optimism then experience some defeat. Share how you overcame adversity and grew as an educator.
Help a teacher in need. Perhaps a colleague is floundering or experiencing personal problems. Offer whatever type of support is needed: resources, lesson plans, equipment, etc.
Compliment others. Smile. You will immediately feel better and build lasting relationships.
Blog. Speak. Put your ideas out there. Share teaching wisdom with teachers far and near. Be a positive advocate for our noble profession. Someone out there can benefit from your experience.
Name the special teachers that helped you along the way. Whisper a silent “thank you” (or send notes to personally express your gratitude). They were generous enough to share teaching wisdom with you. Now it’s your turn. Pay it back!
The next generation of teachers will forge ahead with new techniques and tools. But they shouldn’t have to recreate the wheel. It’s time to share teaching wisdom with them. Let your teaching legacy live. Pay it forward!
